Two weekends into my trip abroad, my grandma comes to visit for a bit in between her busy schedule! A few weeks before my graduation she's in China, then road trips to Florida, and now she came to explore Australia and New Zealand. How lucky am I! From facetiming dad while he was at work, to going to dinner at DeVinic's Italian place and not actually having to wait years for our food like they insisted, to overlooking the city with our new firefighter friends, and hopping on and off the tour bus even when I remembered at the last minute I was going on a field trip to the Auckland Museum, I enjoyed every waking minute with my grandma!
I mean, don't get me wrong, a few gourmet meals I didn't have to pay for was generous, but spending the entire weekend with my grandparents was heart warming. I did cry for the first time last Friday, not sure if it was only out of frustration or being slightly home sick, but, you know, having grandma there always makes things a little better.
Touring downtown Auckland, we hopped on and off the yellow bus (Explorer). We had the opportunity to see the zoo, Museum of Transportation and Technology, Mount Eden, Parnell Village, the Sky Tower and many other once-in-a-lifetime views. One thing I wasn't able to do that I'm looking forward to before I leave is the Kelly Tarlton's Sea Life Aquarium.
Traveling Tip #10: If you're away from home for a long time, make sure you've got something or someone coming from home at some point to give you a big squeeze of love!
