Every Sunday and Monday night = Dancing with the Stars is mandatory. It's a must. For some reason, I dedicated a few minutes after the Sunday shows to snag some tickets (which is when they're dropped).
Last weekend, I got those tickets. I clicked it at the right second and selected the right day where I got myself two free tickets to DWTS NZ!! My roommate and I bussed over to the set, got dinner at a local pub, and then got in line right away. The line was in a warehouse filled with props and set equipment...interesting place to hold royalty like us..but, nonetheless, we met the most fantastic people. We made friends with these two girls--one my age, one my roommate's--and then we got on the subject of what our interests were, what we were doing here, America, and then jobs. This is when I found out they work for the church I attended a few weekends ago, City Impact! I was shocked. Mind blown. What were the odds I scored the tickets, met those girls in line, and they worked at the church I attended in the Northshore! Wild.
A few hours later of waiting in this warehouse, finally the doors opened and we were allowed in! The room was much smaller than TV made it seem, per usual, but the colors, lights, people, and hype was very real.
There was this hype man "Sam Smith" who apparently use to be a dentist for 5 years, but then was hired to be a writer for a comedian and filled in to entertain the audience on a show...and kept that job ever since. Let me tell you, he sure deserved it. Cracking jokes, making every
person in the audience feel special, and even taking some members up to dance! You guessed it, my new friends decided to volunteer me...and of course I didn't object.
Before the official live show started, we got to experience true pre-recordings. The cast and crew pretended they knew the results and acted as if we were moving on. There were also shots filmed for transitions in between sections of the show which was quite interesting as a former musical-junkie.
So, Sundays are when most of the dancers perform; whereas Mondays usually include a few dances, but focus on the eliminations and occasional dance-offs. For this past weekend, we were lucky enough to see the second-to-last show (the SEMI FINALE) which was quite the experience. Watching the dance off between the two dancers was quite entertaining as we hadn't seen one because she danced before. Fortuantely, the celebrity who needed to be voted off shows ago (he's a Member of Parliament in Auckland), finally was voted off! Great effort David, but like...it was time, mate.
As the show came to an end, we had the privilege of taking pictures with the cast and crew where I, the American, was starstruck by these famous NZ celebrities. I may not have known or grown up watching them, but I could just feel their fame. Now I can finally say I've been on TV and to Dancing with the Stars!!!!!!!!!
